A pilot phase of Teach the World Online (TWOL) program has commenced via Skype. The first wonderful TWOL teaching session started in November 2011.
Ms Jill Olsavsky from Singapore taught an hour-long online class every Tuesday for one month. She teaches poems, provided advice for students on their futures, ambitions, etc. and tried to pick their interests in story writing and music appreciation as effective tools to learning. The students took great interests in this new form of learning with the use of technology and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with a native speaker. The children were intrigued and the sessions were a resounding success.
Logistics-wise, the Skype and Internet facilities/connectivity also worked out well. We used a multimedia projector screen for the online classes. When power failures occurred, the students gathered around the laptops and continued their learning journeys. Their desire to learn is simply captivating.
